Recorded last July but published mid-October this podcast records a conversation between archaeologist Damian Shiels and our Irish pilot's John Tierney and his Ontario-based colleague Patrick Leahy. Patrick combines being a full-time farmer with his local historical researches in Douro, Ontario, Canada but when one factors in the diaspora element of his settled emigrant community his local knowledge includes parts of Ireland.
The podcast covers the thinking behind community archaeology for community benefit, uses Irish diaspora populations of the last 200 years as a case study for any emigrant populations, and digs deep into the value of gravestones for roots tourism.
