In February 2026, Bibracte applied to the LEADER Morvan programme to fund two engineering missions dedicated to enhancing the paths of the Grand Site de France: updating the waymarking of the Tour du Morvan des Sommets ‘GR de Pays’ route, and designing a wayfinding plan for hiking routes, together with a map and an open-source digital tool for the shared management of itineraries. The application was favourably received by the Local Action Group, and the work was entrusted to the French Hiking Federation and to a local territorial engineering agency.
As part of the SECreTOUR pilot project, Bibracte and its partner the Morvan natural regional park facilitate the technical committee. Through a letter of intent, local authorities and stakeholders have committed to taking part in this committee by reflecting together on the implementation of the recommendations, the shared maintenance and promotion of walking routes, the search for funding, and the drafting of both a multi-party agreement on the management of the hiking plan and a future charter for the sustainable management of the heritage path network.
The agency is responsible for the field assessment, consultation with a working group and the Grand Site’s 12 municipalities, the consolidation of the route network and wayfinding points, the definition of a signage strategy and charter adapted to the territory’s resources, the production of print-ready files for the signs, as well as the structuring of data for an open-source digital management tool (GEOTRECK) and support for its adoption. Three technical committee meetings have already been held in April, July and September.
The next steps planned for the end of 2026 and beginning of 2027 include having the signage and waymarking strategy approved by the territory's elected representatives, then drawing up, together with the territory's heritage community and local authorities, a joint charter for path management and hiking policy and setting out the rules, governance and socio-economic model of this territorial commons.
