Presentation by José Maria Civantos; The medieval irrigation system of the Granada altiplano (Andalusia): reactivating a common good
For the past 18 years, the yearly conference Entretiens de Bibracte-Morvan (Bibracte-Morvan Talks) aims to debate the challenges facing the territory with the help of scientists and, for the latest editions, the mediation of artists. The conference is open to everyone. It explores subjects as the notions of Commons, climate change, solidarity between humans and non-humans and agro-ecology, etc., and it questions these notions in a practical way through sessions organized in the field. Thanks to the Entretiens, the territory and its actors have thus built up over the years a shared cultural reference system that enables a shared territorial project to be developed further.
After dealing with agriculture, forestry, heritage and common goods, it was essential for the Entretiens de Bibracte-Morvan to take an interest in the issue of water, the region's vital resource.
Conferences, walks and meetings, experience-sharing and engaged debates will enliven the two days of 18 and 19 October 2024, following a tried and tested formula from previous editions.
This year, the event will mobilise and present the work undertaken by Bibracte and its partners since September 2023 by a research programme ‘with and for society’ with the support of the French National Research Agency. Under the acronym COUDRIER, the aim of this programme is to help inhabitants of the Grand Site de France of Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets and stakeholders to build up knowledge and acquire the tools they need to preserve water in the context of the climate upheaval we are experiencing.
Over two days, the aim of the Entretiens de Bibracte-Morvan is to look at water in all its facets and to encourage collective reflection of the Bibracte-Morvan des Sommets landscape heritage community on the most desirable ways of managing this vital and unique resource in the future, whose circulation in the biosphere guarantees its survival and good health, in the same way as blood does in our bodies.
José Maria Civantos, Professor of Medieval Archaeology at the University of Granada and leader of the SECreTOUR project, will be giving a lecture on 19 October on the experience of the pilot project carried out as part of SECREtour: The medieval irrigation system of the Granada altiplano (Andalusia): reactivating a common good.
About the event:
The Entretiens de Bibracte-Morvan is an annual event that has been a regular feature of discussions on the future of the Grand Site de France and the Morvan region in general since the mid-2000s. They are the result of a partnership between BIBRACTE EPCC and the Morvan Regional Nature Park. Every year, they provide an opportunity for collective reflection on the challenges facing the Morvan region, based on the work of the Bibracte - Morvan des Sommets Grand Site de France experimental area. This 18th edition benefits from the collaboration of the Maison du Patrimoine oral de Bourgogne - MPOB (Anost), the Biogéosciences laboratory (Dijon) and the CHEMINS association.
With the support of the Direction régionale des Affaires culturelles de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the French national research agency as part of the COUDRIER project and the Horizon Europe programme as part of the SECreTOUR project.
