On September 11, we conducted a guided tour of the Aynadamar Irrigation Canal in collaboration with the Granada Taqa Guide Association (https://taqagranada.es/).
This activity is part of our strategy to integrate historical irrigation systems into discussions about the territory, with the aim of highlighting and recognizing their social and environmental importance. In the case of the city of Granada and its province, traditional irrigation systems are not only ancient hydraulic infrastructures, but also fundamental elements of the landscape, identity, and local history.
The visit allowed participants to see firsthand the historical layout of the irrigation channel, its most significant points, and the role it played in supplying water to the Granada and the historic meadows. It also addressed the current challenges of conservation and citizen initiatives that seek to keep these systems alive as cultural and environmental heritage.
