On November 22nd 2024 part of the MEMOLab UGR team carried out a volunteer activity, in collaboration with the Community of Irrigators of Castril and the Castril Town Council, for the enhancement of the Martín branch, one of the irrigation channels that make up the Vega de Tubos, an area of enormous environmental, agricultural, cultural and historical value.
A group of about 20 volunteers were able to learn about the management and maintenance of these ditches, accompanied by the Irrigation Community, who explained how these ditches work and the traditional maintenance based on cleaning the channel with tools such as shovels and hoes. This day has brought back into operation one of the branches that give life to these fertile plains (the Vega de Tubos), which are home to a great deal of local ecological knowledge that should be put to good use.
